Gran Sierpe Pisco is a grape brandy that is “mildly reminiscent of tequila in taste.” This brandy is relatively new in the U.S. cocktail scene, but is has a long, distinguished history as the “National Drink of Peru”. Actually, Chile also lays proclaims this fine liquor as its own National Drink as well! Must be nice to be wanted by everyone…
A History Lesson (you wish you’d studied this in school)
Pisco is a three century-old Peruvian liquor. Spanish settlers began developing Pisco in the 16th century by using the finest grapes grown in Southern Peru. Peruvian miners popularized the spirit throughout the West Coast during the gold rush. One concoction in particular, San Francisco’s “Pisco Punch“, gained such fame
upon its discovery in the late 19th century that it was written about by the likes of Mark Twain, Harold Ross and Rudyard Kipling.
The creator of the cocktail, Duncan Nicol, did his best to take the recipe with him to the grave when he passed in the late 1920s. After his death, the
pisco punch was thought thave been lost forever. 50 years later the California Historical Society unearthed the formula, giving a second life to the beloved drink of the San Francisco of the 1800s.

In its short time back in the U.S., Gran Sierpe has won a couple of prestigious awards:
